Move over, IPMS nationals! This year's IPMS NENY chapter Sanford Cup competition saw 10 excellent models built by club members competing for bragging rights and the enduring fame of the winner's name added to the trophy. For the uninitiated, here's a link to the Sanford Cup rules.

Photos of all the entries appear in a gallery below, but let's dispense with suspense and announce this year's winner: Brian Fowler and his 1/35 armor diorama, Failed Gamble in the Ardennes.
Brian previously shared an in-depth look at the inspiring level of detail and work involved in creating this outstanding work of modeling art and you can view that PDF here.
Here's the gallery of all the competing models:

In addition to the Sanford Cup entries, members also displayed and discussed other of their work, some of which placed at the 2026 IPMS nationals.

We'll do a little photo tour of the latest exhibit at the Saratoga Auto Museum. BTW, the three points of the star symbolize this particular company's efforts to achieve "universal motorization on land, sea, and air"!! Boy, the apple doesn't fall from the tree over there, huh?

Tell me if you've heard this one....Harvey Low, an Avro Lancaster, and another Canadian walk into a bar....

Our friend Harvey will share a presentation with us that will mostly be a surprise for you...and for me too!! But based on our past experience with his many presentations, I'm sure we'll all be riveted (not like vintage Airfix riveted, but in a good way!!)

Brian Fowler presented his recently completed diorama "Failed Gamble in the Ardennes".  We've all had the pleasure of seeing this project through its evolution and now we get to see the finished product and take a deeper dive into what he did and what he learned! This diorama incorporated a number of new skills, products, and techniques involving figure painting, 3D detailing, groundwork, mud, and snow, etc.

Take a look at this PDF of finished and in-progress photos - it's outstanding modeling craftsmanship.

A crowd sourced presentation/extended discussion on the use of a food dehydrator as a modeling tool.

We talked about this a while back (maybe a few years!) but it's time to revisit this topic! Some of us continue to use one of these wonder tools and others have "taken the plunge" and added one to their modeling arsenal. Those of us that have/use one will share our experiences with the group about lessons learned, what we might do differently next time, etc.

Art Harvey took a trip to Italy’s oldest and currently largest museum of aviation in the summer of 2024. The museum is located on the grounds and in the original factory buildings of the aircraft company founded in 1908 by Giovanni Caproni and features exhibits from Italy's earliest lighter-than-air efforts, through the piston engine era, right up to modern jet, rotor, and tilt-rotor aircraft.  There are a lot of pics, so we're going to play it by ear, in case we have to press pause and keep the second part for a future meeting.
